The catch, and the beauty of it: there are no names, no labels, and no photographs anywhere on the piece. To a guest it's a gorgeous abstract sculpture. To you, every ridge and line is a chapter. The name comes from physics. In relativity, a "world line" is the complete path an object traces through four-dimensional spacetime — not just where something is, but its entire history through space and time [World line, Wikipedia]. Unlike a simple orbit or trajectory, a world line includes time, so it's "the sequence of spacetime events corresponding to the history of the object" [World line, Wikipedia]. The idea was pioneered by the mathematician Hermann Minkowski, who introduced it in his 1908 lecture "Space and Time," recasting Einstein's 1905 special relativity as geometry [World line, Wikipedia; Minkowski, "Space and Time," 1909]. In other words, your worldline is the one unrepeatable path you've drawn through the universe. That's what this sculpture carves.
